The fanfare of pre-Fancy Farm events in Marshall County is starting to take shape as politicians begin to confirm plans to migrate westward on their way to the annual St. Jerome Catholic Church picnic.
The Republican party of Marshall and Calloway counties last week confirmed Senator Rand Paul will provide the keynote address at the annual Night Before Fancy Farm event at Kenlake State Resort Park on Aug. 1.
Senator Paul had announced earlier in the week he would be addressing the Fancy Farm crowd on Aug. 2. Paul, who is considering a presidential bid in 2016, will be making his fourth Fancy Farm appearance.
Organizers of the Friday night event in Marshall County are also expecting Representative Ed Whitfield, Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner James Comer, Republican candidate for governor Hal Heiner and local candidates from the region.
Tickets are $25 and may be purchased by contacting the Marshall County Republican Party at 270-527-2740.
On the other side of the political aisle, Marshall County Democrats are planning for the annual bean dinner at Kentucky Dam Village on Aug. 1, with senatorial candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes slated to provide the keynote address.
State Auditor Adam Edelen, State Treasurer Todd Hollenback, Attorney General Jack Conway and state party chairman Dan Logsdon are also expected to attend the annual event. Candidates for local offices will also be at the event.
Tickets are $15 in advance by calling Ann Riley at 270-703-0304. Tickets at the door are $20.
The Democrats will also host their annual golf tournament at Kentucky Dam on July 31.
