BREWERS — A Benton man was airlifted to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind., after a possible DUI-related crash Friday night.

Deputy William Strader responded to a call of a collision with possible entrapment on Vanzora Road. He found Jamie D. Morgan, 29, of Murray near the accident on the shoulder of the road.

The man told Strader that he was the driver of one car, and the driver of the second car, Jakab F. Faughn, 25, Benton, could not escape his car.

Faughn had severe injuries.

Strader reported Morgan smelled of alcohol. According to the police report, Morgan admitted drinking and taking prescription medicines before driving.

Faughn was flown to Deaconess due to the severity of his injuries. On Monday, the hospital listed him in stable condition.

Morgan refused treatment and was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence and assault, due to the severity of Faughn’s injuries and aggrivated DUI, second offense. Investigators believe Morgan’s vehicle traveled into the oncoming lane.

Morgan was taken to the Marshall County Jail. He is being held in lieu of a $25,000 cash bond.

Appearing with attorney Bard Brian on Monday, Morgan waived his District Court arraignment. District Judge Jack Telle scheduled him for a preliminary appearance on May 1 at 1 p.m.
