From the Pacific Ocean, to the Florida panhandle, to their old Kentucky homes, Marshall County’s high school basketball teams will have a dribbling, jump-shooting merry Christmas.

The Lady Marshals of Marshall County High open play Wednesday in the girls’ portion of the Saint Francis Merv Lopes Hoop Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The only team from the mainland, they will play Hawaii Baptist Academy in the tipoff game of the tournament.

The game is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. local time, which is 1:30 p.m. in the Central Time Zone.

Pool play continues Thursday and Friday, with Sunday’s schedule topped by the championship game between the top teams in A and B pools meeting at 5:30 p.m. Hawaii time (9:30 p.m. CST).

On Thursday, the Marshals boys team travels to Glasgow to take part in the T.J. Samson Community Hospital Holiday Classic at Glasgow High School.

The Marshals will play John Hardin in the tourney opener at 3 p.m.

In other first-round games, Barren County plays Logan County, Franklin-Simpson meets Wayne County and Metcalfe County takes on host Glasgow.

Also on Thursday, Christian Fellowship School’s Eagles play the opening game in their own Trees ‘N Trends Itty Bitty Christmas Tournament in Briensburg.

CFS will meet Fulton County at 2:30 p.m. in the first of four first-round games.

The field includes a selecton of public and private schools that are in line size-wise with tiny CFS, with 217 students in grades K-12 according to the school’s enrollment figures from 2011-2012.

Other first-round games will pair Community Christian and Frederick Fraise, Whitesville Trinity and Joppa, Ill., and Heritage Academy and Dawson Springs.

Semifinals and consolation bracket games are scheduled for Friday, and the tourney will conclude with a third-place game at 2 p.m. and the championship game at 4 p.m Saturday.

The week after Christmas, the Marshals and Lady Marshals are back on the road.

On Thursday, the Marshals boys team returns to the Area Glass Marlin Christmas Classic at J.R. Arnold High School in Panama City Beach, Fla.

When the Lady Marshals return from their visit to the Aloha State, they head for Owensboro and the Dairy Queen Classic on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 28-29.
