Mary Barbara McWherter, 72, of Ava, Ill. (formerly of Benton) passed away at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. on Sunday, February 9.

Mary Barbara was born in Union City, Tenn. on February 2, 1942, the daughter of Henry Porter and Hautie Barbara Adair Johnson. She married Rev. Wilson Evon McWherter on February 3, 1957 in Corinth, Miss. She was a Co-Pastor with her husband at the Ava Assembly of God Church in Ava, Ill.

Mary Barbara is survived by her husband, Rev. Wilson Evon McWherter of Ava, Ill.; her children, Michael E. (Shelley) McWherter of Union City, Tenn., Kathy A. Klatt of Benton, Linda S. Edwards of Demotte, Ind., and Douglas Lynn (Tammy) McWherter of Benton; 10 grandchildren, Christopher, Ricky, Anthony, Seth, Jonathan and Katherine McWherter, Timothy and Janessa Klatt, Rebekah Thornton and Sean Chandler; 7 great grandchildren, Bodie Michael, Tessa, Griffin, Rylan, Jayden, Kadance and Idgie.

Mary Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Jerry Lynn; one great grandson, James C. McWherter; two sisters; and one brother.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 12, at Wilson’s Funeral Home in Ava, Ill. Rev. Lynn McWherter officiated. Burial followed in the Jolley Springs Cemetery in Dresden, Tenn. Memorials may be given to the Ava Assembly of God Church in Ava, Ill.
