Gayla was known for her quick, unfiltered wit and genuine friendship. She graduated from the nursing program at Murray-Calloway County Hospital in 1969. Gayla retired as a nurse in the pharmacy department at Marshall County Hospital after 34 years of service. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Benton.
She is survived by her two sisters, Jimmie Duncan and her husband, Jimmy of Benton and Debra Binkley and her husband, Mike of Winchester; two nieces, Angela Carnine and Kristin Browning both of Benton; two nephews, James Binkley of Georgetown and Noah Binkley of Evansville, Ind.; two great nephews, Jacob Carnine and Luke Carnine; and a great niece, Evie Binkley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Richard “Strawberry” Cope and Betty Jo McGregor Cope.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 25 at Filbeck-Cann & King Funeral Home. Rev. Don Wilson and Joe Daryl Thorn officiated and burial followed in the Marshall County Memory Gardens.
